Mothers Day Gift DVD: An ideal present for Mother’s Day

Amazon have some great deals on DVDs especially for Mothers Day. We’ve picked out a few of our personal favourites which are such great value at the moment, if she hasn’t seem some of them you could afford to buy more than one.

One of our great British favourites is Notting Hill. It’s hard to believe it was released 10 years ago. Starring the beautiful Julia Roberts and the handsome Hugh Grant, it’s the tale of a world famous actress Anna Scott and Notting Hill bookshop owner William Thacker. Normally their paths would never cross, but this is the story of what happens when they do. A true fairy-tale with some fantastic comedy moments – most supplied by William’s bunch of friends and his flatmate Spike, played brilliantly by Rhys Ifans. And it all ends happily ever after. A true feelgood movie. Perfect for Mothers Day. Click here to buy it from Amazon.

If your Mum was a fan of Sex in the City on TV, why not treat her to the movie. A few years have passed for the four friends but they are still the same sassy girls with the same issues and obsessions in the designer gear. Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte seemed like our best friends after six series of the television show and it’s good to catch up with them again. It transfers well to the big screen and is a must see for every fan of the series. Click here to buy it from Amazon.

Calendar Girls is another great comedy film with a stellar cast including Julie Walters, Helen Mirren, Penelope Wilton, Annette Crosbie and Celia Imrie and many others. It tells the now famous story of the Rylestone WI ladies who support their friend through the death of her husband from cancer and who rally togther to raise money for the local hospital that cared for him – by posing nude for a calendar. Brilliantly funny, yet also moving and sensitive, it’s a film you can watch over and over again. Click here to buy it from Amazon.

Based around the hit musical stage show and the great songs from ABBA, Mamma Mia! is now the UK’s biggest selling DVD of all time. So if your Mum hasn’t already got a copy, Mothers Day is the perfect opportunity to show her what she’s been missing out on. Starring Meryl Streep, Julie Walters and the gorgeous Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth, it had audiences dancing in the aisles in the cinema and certainly has me singing along – even when Pierce Brosnan sings. Keira Knightly stars in another one of our selected favourites, The Duchess. At the time of it’s release the press made much of the similarity between the life of the Duchess of Devonshire and the late Princess of Wales. Both were beautiful and much loved by the public. With a cast also starring Ralph Fiennes and Charlotte Rampling, and winner of the 2009 BAFTA for Costume Design it is a stunningly beautiful film.Click here to buy it from Amazon.

Little Dorrit captivated TV audiences in the run up to Christmas - and now it’s been released on DVD it’s your chances to watch it all over again. The BBC is the master of the historical adaptation and Little Dorrit is no exception. The Dickens novel tells the tale of Little Dorrit who, as a result of her fathers debt, spends her childhood in a prison. But the tangled lives of two families are central to the drama and Arthur Clennam is determined to get to the bottom. Fine acting from a strong cast lead by Claire Foy and Matthew Macfadyen, and also including Eddie Marsan, Andy Serkis, Alun Armstrong, Tom Courtney, Sue Johnston, Amanda Redman, Pam Ferris and Freema Agyeman.
